OBIT – Maria Ruth Chen

MISSION – Maria Ruth Chen, 65, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, in Mission.

Mrs. Chen received her bachelor’s degree in English and master’s in creative writing from the University of Texas-Pan American.

Survivors include her parents, Vicente C. and Virginia G. Martinez; children, Israel Mireles, David Sanchez and Shawn Rodela, all of Mission, and Melysa Olivares of Pasadena; sisters, Rosario Cardenas and Suzanna Edwards; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John Vincent Martinez.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. at Funeraria Del Angel in Mission.
