MISSION – Sylvia Obregon, 62, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at her home in Mission after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mrs. Obregon was born on Sept. 3, 1953, in Hanford, Calif. to Josie Bonilla and Juan Corona. She graduated from Edison High school in Fresno, Calif.
She sold Home Interiors for 27 years and was a Mission C.I.S.D. substitute teacher for nine years. Even after being diagnosed with cancer, she pursued her dream of becoming a teacher and attended South Texas College and Texas A& M University-Kingsville. She received her bachelor’s degree at age of 61.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Ricardo Obregon Jr.; children, Raquel Obregon Vargas, Rick Obregon, Reuben Obregon and Rebecca Obregon; her mother; siblings, Frances Corona, Felix Corona, Rita Rios, Marta Cardenas, Isabel Camarena, Isidro Herrera, Erlinda Martinez, Irma Melendez and David Martinez; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Virgil Wilson Mortuary in Mission on Dec. 2. Her remains were cremated.
