Triathlon of Light benefits proposed Reynosa eye clinic

The Mission Lions Club, Lions United Sight Foundation and the Mission Parks Department teamed up last Saturday, May 28, for the Triathlon of Light fundraiser with proceeds benefiting the construction of an eye clinic in Reynosa.

Athletes began the event when they hit the water at the Mayberry Pool in Mission at the start of the competition for 300 meters swimming and continued on through the city for the 12-mile cycling and 2.5-mile running portions of the event.

20160603 Triathalon LEG0026According to the results posted by endurancesplits.com the top three female finishers were 29-year-old Natalie Spencer of Mission, Gabriela Vasquez of Mission, and Ginny Fite of Harlingen.

The top three male finishers were Emmanuel Lopez of Mission, number one overall; Camilo Garcia of Mission, number two overall; and Alfonso Garcia of Mexico, number three overall.

There were 19 female competitiors and 36 males, ranging in age from 12 to 66 years. Twelve-year-old Franky Garcia, of Mission, placed 19th in the male category and 21st overall.
