Opponents face off in Proposition 1 battle
The conversation is mounting regarding Proposition 1, the proposal on the Nov. 8 ballot to establish a new Hidalgo County healthcare tax district. Voters hungry for more information about the proposal that is being touted by its proponents as a means to increase funding for indigent healthcare and uncompensated medical care as well as help fund the new Rio Grande Valley medical school.

County approves $5M budget increase, hikes minimum wage to $12
Hidalgo County commissioners adopted the 2016-2017 budget and set the tax rate on Tuesday, Sept. 27 following a public hearing on both items.
Nearly $2 million of the county’s $5 million budget increase for the 2016-2017 fiscal year is due to adding 26 new position to the payroll, an increase in the county minimum wage and increased health insurance costs.
