Early voting numbers released

More than 18,500 voters cast their ballot on the first day of early voting Monday, according to the Hidalgo County Elections Department.

The elections department released unofficial early voting counts yesterday evening that revealed 18,526 people voted in person. During the 2014 general election, only 7,098 people partook in early voting on the first day, according to a 2014 report from the county.

Notable increases in polling locations included Mission City Hall which saw nearly four times the early voters Monday (871) compared to 2014 (230.)

Another Mission polling location, the gym at Bannworth Park on North Shary Road, saw nearly five times the early voters Monday (801) compared to 2014 (166.)

Penitas, which saw 121 early voters, had 407 people at the polls in the Meeting Room Annex.

A list of all Hidalgo County early voting locations can be found in the link below. All locations are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Voters need to only present a photo I.D.  at the voting locations.
