OBIT – Simplicio Alaniz

MISSION – Simplicio Alaniz, 96, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, in Mission.

Mr. Alaniz was a lifelong resident of Mission, Texas. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and participated in the European theater during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 8788.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Maria R. Alaniz; children, Manuel Alaniz, Maria Anita Alaniz and Sylvia Alaniz; siblings, Gregorio Alanis, Maria Mata and Belia Dickerson; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Simplicio Alaniz, Jr.; parents Dario and Benigna Alanis; uncle and aunt who adopted him, Manuel and Librada Perez; stepfather, Luis Villarreal; siblings, Pedro, Rafael, Bartolo and Manuel Alaniz and Luisa Partida and Aurelia Pena.

A rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 20, at 9 a. m., followed by 9:30 a.m. mass, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial follows at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

In lieu of flowers the family requested donations to the donor’s favorite charity.
