OBIT – Thomas Rice Jr.

MISSION – Thomas William Rice Jr., 73, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at University Hospital in San Antonio.

Mr. Rice was born in Bay St. Louis, Miss. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1965-1969 and was stationed in Corpus Christi where he met his future wife, Irma. After the Coast Guard, he moved his new family to Mission and later to McAllen, where he worked as a maintenance supervisor.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Irma; children, Thomas Rice III, Pamela Ann Linn, Michelle Rice, Jennifer Vasquez; mother, Dorothy Rice; sisters, Patricia Hoffman and Eileen Hoch; and 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas W. Rice, Sr.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 30, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial follows at Valley Memorial Gardens.
