OBIT – Concepcion Flores Garza
1921 – 2017
MISSION – Concepcion Flores Garza, age 95, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 19, 2017. She died peacefully in her home in Mission with family by her side.
She was born on October 5, 1921 in General Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and was one of 10 children born to Jose Angel Flores and Prudenciana Cantu.
Concepcion married Hermenegildo Garza in General Teran, Nuevo Leon, in 1939 and in 1955 they moved their family to the United States to work as migrant farm workers. With God’s help and perseverance, they became successful business owners of the Cabrito Market in Mission.
Concepcion, nicknamed “Chonita,” dedicated herself to serving her family with great love and joy. She will be remembered as a gracious, warm and loving woman with an unwavering faith in God. The love of God shone through her daily, and she maintained hope and faith that she would someday be reunited with her husband and the rest of her loved ones. Her favorite bible verse was Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Concepcion was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Hermenegildo Garza; four children, Orfila, Ovidio, Horacio and Oscar Garza; her parents, Jose Angel Flores and Prudenciana Cantu; and by her siblings, Crescencio, Margarito, Herlinda, Andrea, Maria de Jesus, Josefa, Lupita and Angelina.
She is survived by her brother, Antonio Flores; her adoring children, Otilia Laguna (Alfredo†), Hermenegildo Garza Jr. (Irene), Olivia Lopez (Andres), Odilia Moreno (Jose), and San Juanita Olga “Janie” Garza, as well as her daughter-in-law, Noralinda “Norie” Garza; and 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday morning, August 22, 2017, at Flores Funeral Home Chapel in Mission with burial following at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission.
Joseph Lopez, Adrian Lopez, Jose Heriberto “Eddie” Sandoval, David Moreno, Oscar Arturo Garza and Andrew Lopez-Medley served as pallbearers.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Flores Funeral Home of Mission.
