OBIT – Rogelio Vela
MISSION – Rogelio G. “Roy” Vela, 71, passed away on Sept. 27, 2017, at Doctors Hospital in Edinburg.
Mr. Vela was a lifelong resident of Mission and a 1966 graduate of Mission High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967-1971. He attended Pan American University, earning degrees with honors in Inter-American Affairs and History. He was a school teacher for 23 years.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Marianela Vela of Mission; children, Iris Borrego of Edinburg and Jaime Vela of Mission; siblings, Ramiro Vela, Reynaldo Vela, Roberto Vela, Raul Vela and Amparo Barbosa; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonifacio and Carolina Vela, and sisters, Inocencia Vela, Carolina Trevino and Lydia Rodriguez.
A funeral service was held on Oct. 2 at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. Burial followed at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
