PEÑITAS – Amelia F. Moreno, 76, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, in McAllen.
Mrs. Moreno was born on May 28, 1941, in San Miguel, Tamps., Mex., to Octavio Flores and Guillermina Lopez Flores. Born into an immigrant family that followed the crops from Illinois to California and Texas, she eventually settled in the Rio Grande Valley with her husband and family. She was a member of and a Eucharistic minister with Our Lady, Queen of Angels, Catholic Church in La Joya.
Survivors include her children, Nancy Morales of Palmview, Dalia Mendiola of Penitas, Queen Mendiola of McAllen and Jesse Moreno of Hollywood, Calif.; siblings, Aurora Collins of Oceanside, Calif., Anabel Flores of Peñitas, Serapio Flores of Hollister, Calif. and Sigifredo Flores of Peñitas; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Nieves Moreno; parents; siblings, Lupe Guzman, Alicia Gandaria, Guillermina Gandaria, Arminda Chapa, Alma Salinas, Octavio Flores Jr. and Saul Flores.
A funeral mass was held on Oct. 9 at Our Lady Queen of Angels. Burial followed at Havana Cemetery.
