An elementary school campus in the Mission school district was placed on lockdown earlier this morning, according to a news release from the district.
At approximately 7:20 a.m. Mission CISD officials were instructed to secure Leal Elementary School due to a pursuit in the area of the campus, the release stated. Local law enforcement officials immediately provided additional security at the campus, placing the school in a soft lockdown that is still in effect.
Under this lockdown, activities are continuing inside the school while entry is being denied into the campus. As of this time, no suspects have entered the grounds of Leal Elementary School and there have been no arrests made anywhere on campus grounds, the release states.
According to the release, rumors of a gun incident at a Mission CISD school, as well as video that has been shared on social media showing what appears to be an apprehension that is being assumed to be a student, are false.
As of press time Friday afternoon, the lockdown was still in effect.
