OBITUARY – Edward Cottrell
MISSION – Edward Ray Cottrell, 74, passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at McAllen Medical Center.
Mr. Cottrell was born in Indianapolis, Ind., in 1944. He was a Vietnam veteran serving as a U.S. Air Force as a supervisor with the military police and was a Sentry K-9 handler. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1991. He was a member of VFW Post 8788 in McAllen.
Survivors include his sons Duane, Damon, Derek and Darin Cottrell; brothers, John and Cletus Cottrell; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Cottrell and Viola Hazelip, and brothers, Donald Gamron, Roger Gamron and Dallas Cottrell.
A funeral mass was held on Jan. 7 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial followed at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
The family requested memorial contributions to be made to the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Cancer Foundation in McAllen.
