UTRGV Women’s Golf finishes Texas State Invitational in 16th
KYLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s golf team fell to 16th place to close out the Texas State Invitational on Tuesday at Plum Creek Golf Course.
UTRGV closed out the tournament with a final round 315 to finish with a three-round score of 919. UTRGV finished two shots behind UT Arlington for 15th and four shots back of Little Rock for 14th.
Senior Emma Mesta and freshman Julie Lucio led the way for UTRGV with final rounds of 76 as both finished tied for 50th with three-round scores of 228.
Senior Michelle Moroles finished tied for 55th with a three-round score of 230 after posting a final round 82. Sophomore Briana Garza also posted a final round 82 as she finished in 70th with a three-round score of 237 and junior Vicky Gonzalez finished tied for 75th with a three-round total of 240 after a final round 81.
UTSA won the team title with a three-round score of 584 with a final round of 285. Sam Houston State’s Hannah Alberto held on to her first round lead to win the individual title after posting a final round 69 for a three-round score of 207.
UTRGV will be back in action from February 25-26 for the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, which will be part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.
