SUGAR LAND – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s golf team sits in 10th place after the first day of the HBU Husky Invitational on Monday at Riverbend Country Club.
UTRGV posted a first round 317 before carding a 328 in the second round for a two-round total of 645. They sit four strokes back of Little Rock for ninth place. Houston Baptist leads after the first day with a two-round total of 608.
Freshman Julie Lucio led the way for UTRGV with a two-round total of 156 as she sits tied for 18th place. Lucio opened with a first round 80 before shaving off four strokes in the second round with a 76.
Senior Emma Mesta is tied for 26th with a two-round total of 159 after posting rounds of 78 and 81. Junior Vicky Gonzalez posted rounds of 78 and 83 for a two-round total of 161 as she sits tied for 30th.
Sophomore Briana Garza is tied for 47th with a two-round total of 164 after carding rounds of 80 and 84. Junior Tilda Green is tied for 50th after rounds of 80 and 85 for a two-round total of 165 and senior Michelle Moroles is in 52nd with a two-round total of 166 after posting rounds of 79 and 87.
Sam Houston’s Jenna Phillips leads after the first day with a two-round total of 146 after turning in rounds of 72 and 74.
UTRGV will be back on the course for the final round of the tournament starting at 8:30 a.m. today.
