Events Calendar – Week of Feb. 14, 2020
February 22 – The Refuge Trash Bash at South Padre Island will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is one of the largest cleanups on SPI north beach with approximately 13 miles of beach from County Beach Access 6 to the latest units of the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. The event will host outreach booths to educate the public on the environmental impacts of debris in the earth’s oceans and give information about the National Wildlife Refuge System. February 29 – On the last Saturday of the month, the Edinburg World Birding Center will open its doors for free to the public. This month’s theme is alien animals from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Throughout the day, there will be puzzles, crafts, games, and other activities. Binoculars, children’s garden play sets and Junior Ranger field packs are available to borrow free of charge with a valid picture I.D. EWBC is located at 714 S. Raul Longoria Rd. March 3 – In the Sandy Seashells Young Adventurers workshop at the International Museum of Art & Science, kids ages 2 to 5 will try their hand at collecting as they dig for shells and listen to a reading of “It’s a Seashell Day” by Dianne Ochiltree. IMAS is located at 1900 Nolana Ave., McAllen. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the class from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Cost is $3 for IMAS members and $10 for nonmembers (includes child and adult). March 5 – Are non-human animals capable of acting morally and immorally, or do moral concepts apply only to humans and our actions? Dr. Michael Jaworski dives into this question with “Animal Morality” at the International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) at 6 p.m. The talk is included with museum admission.
