Veterans Memorial High School senior Bella Dominguez will be heading to Victoria Junior College in the fall.
Last Thursday, Dominguez signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for the college. Surrounded by her family, peers and coached, she committed to continuing her athletic and academic career.
“She gets to play a game that she loves, a game that she’s played for a long time,” Tom Gilpin, the VMHS Athletic Coordinator, said.
VMHS Lady Patriot Volleyball Coach Diana Lerma spoke on the importance of hard work both on the court and in the classroom.
“Hard work does work,” Lerma said. “We appreciate everything we’re surrounded with – administration, faculty, parents – it’s a good place to be in.”
Lerma expressed her pride in Dominguez for continuing with the sport.
“No words can express how I feel,” Lerma said, noting that the program is a powerhouse because of players like Dominguez. “We need athletes like Bella – she ended up at number one at the state and number one in the nation on her passing [record], so that is a tremendous accomplishment. We are darn proud that she’s going to be playing at the next level.”
