14 more residents of Hidalgo County have tested positive for the COVID-19 strain of coronavirus bringing the total number of cases to 113, the county announced Monday.
On Monday, a total of 14 people were in the hospital being treated for symptoms of the disease; of those, four were in the intensive care unit, according to a release from the county.
“We are seeing the number of cases double every four days or so,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said. “This is in line with what we have expected and I can’t emphasize enough that the safest place for everyone is in their homes.”
Judge Cortez reminded residents that it has only been 16 days since the first person in Hidalgo County tested positive for the infectious virus. Since then, 62 of the positive cases have been female; 51 have been male.
As the virus continues to spread, more people are also being hospitalized, Judge Cortez said.
