Citing safety concerns, Sharyland ISD announced Wednesday they will be suspending their Curbside Grab & Go Meals Program.
In a letter sent to parents Wednesday, district Superintendent Maria M. Vidaurri said the program will be closed from April 20 through May.
” However, this week we are prepared to serve additional meals to our students on Thursday and Friday, April 16-17,” Vidaurri said in the letter. “Although we will be closed for 10 days, we will be providing meals for five of those 10 days. Please keep in mind that each day will include breakfast and lunch.”
During the suspension, the district child nutrition department will take inventory restock and sanitize all the kitchens before the program reopens May 4, the letter said.
The closure is occuring due to information from Hidalgo County officials warning residents that the peak of COVID-19 will happen within the next two weeks.
“Sharyland ISD will continue to monitor updated guidance from local, state, and federal agencies as we
face this unprecedented challenge,” the letter stated. “As changing conditions regarding the pandemic warrant, we will make decisions based on recommendations from these authorities.”
