Hidalgo County COVID-19 cases near 340

Five people tested positive for the COVID-19 strain of coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases in Hidalgo County to 339.

One person was released from isolation Friday, meaning the patient has not had symptoms for ten days or a fever for three days straight. The total number of those released from isolation now stands at 196 meaning that there are 149 active cases, according to a news release from the county.

The new cases include an Edinburg female in her 50s, a male from Hidalgo in his 70s and two women and one man from McAllen whose ages range from 20s and 40s.

A total of 4,340 COVID-19 tests have been administered in the county with 3,881 tests coming back negative and 120 pending results, the release stated.

12 people remain in area hospitals while three are in intensive care units.
