A Mission man in his 50s with underlying medical conditions became Hidalgo County’s eighth fatality after testing positive for COVID-19, the county announced Saturday.
This brings the total number of known positive cases to 387 as 10 other people tested positive for the virus.
“Another tragedy has visited us in Hidalgo County in the form of this deadly disease,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez said of the death. “My condolences go out to this man’s family and friends. I hope it serves as a reminder to us to take the necessary precautions to protect ourselves, including avoiding crowds.”
For the second day in a row, none of the people testing positive for cOVID-19 were cleared for release, bringing the total amount of active COVID-19 cases in the county to 169. 15 people remain in area hospitals with four of them in intensive care units.
