Hidalgo County reports two more COVID-19 related deaths

Two people in Hidalgo County with underlying medical conditions died after testing positive for COVID-19, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez announced Wednesday.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the county to 10.

“Having one-person die is tragic enough,” Judge Cortez said in a news release. “Having two people die on the same day only compounds that tragedy. My condolences go out to the family and friends of these two people.”

One of the victims was an Edinburg man in his 50s while the other was a Palmview woman in her 70s, the release stated.

The county also reported six other COVID-19 cases, bringing the total amount of cases in the county to 409.

Two people have been released from isolation, bringing the total amount of active cases in Hidalgo County to 164.

Fifteen people remain hospitalized after testing positive for the disease and three are in intensive care units.
