Hidalgo County health officials reported five more people tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday, bringing the total number of known cases of the virus to 472.
Hidalgo County also surpassed the 8,000 mark in COVID-19 testing with 6,914 cases coming back negative and 616 pending results.
“Don’t let this serve as an indication to let your guard down,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said. “We continue to encourage physical distancing, face coverings and good hygiene — especially as we approach Memorial Day weekend.”
12e people remain hospitalized in area hospitals with complications from the virus. Three three of those cases are being treated in intensive care units, the release stated.
An additional 11 people were released from isolation Thursday meaning that they have been symptom free for 10 days, including three days without a fever. There are currently 187 active cases in the ocunty.
