17 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hidalgo and Starr County

Hidalgo County and Starr County reported a total of 17 new cases of COVID-19 in their counties over the weekend.

Hidalgo County announced 15 new cases, bringing the total number in the county to 575.

The new cases are split between 10 females and five males whose ages range from their 20s to 70s from the cities of Mission, San Juan, McAllen, PharrEdinburg, Alamo, weslaco and Hidalgo.

20 people are currently hospitalized with complications from the virus with three of them being treated in intensive care units. Since no one was released from isolation over the weekend, there remains 219 active cases of COVID-19 in the county.

Nearly 14,000 COVID-19 tests have been administered in the county with 9,547 negative results and 3,793 pending results.

Starr County reported two new cases over the weekend, bringing the total amount of known COVID-19 cases in the county to 35.

Both of the new cases are females in their 30s and 50s, according to Starr County Health Authority Dr. Jose Vasquez.
