Edinburg man dies from COVID-19, 100 more cases reported

The total amount of known COVID-19 cases in Hidalgo County has risen to 1,447 on the same day an Edinburg man in his 60s with underlying medical conditions died from complications related to the disease.

The death comes as 100 other residents learned they have tested positive for the virus bringing the total number of known cases to 1,447.

The new cases are from people in Mission, McAllen, Edinburg, Weslaco, San Juan, Donna, Alamo and five from undisclosed or unknown locations.

“A total of 20 of our neighbors have now died from complications of this disease,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said. “I encourage us all to band together to fight this virus by employing all the recommended measures that work — especially avoiding crowds. My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of this person.”

The amount of people hospitalized from complications of the virus has risen to 99 people with 10 of those cases being treated in intensive care units.

36 people were released from isolation after showing no symptoms for 10 days or fever for three days.

There are currently 796 net active cases of the virus  and 1,428 test results are pending.
