133 new cases of COVID-19 were reported over the weekend in Hidalgo County, the county announced in a Sunday news release.
The county also reported the death of one individual, an unidentified Mission man in his 50s with underlying medical conditions, bringing the total amount of fatalities in the county to 22.
“I want to extend my deepest condolences to this man’s family and friends. I know they were hoping to spend Father’s Day with their loved one,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a statement. “It is all of our responsibility to take the necessary measures to minimize the spread in our community. We know what works, let’s all be part of the solution.”
The total number of positive cases COVID-19 cases in the county now stands at 1,689 with 951 net active cases and 1,137 test results are pending.
The number of people hospitalized in area hospitals with complications from the disease rose to 134 with 16 of those cases being treated in intensive care units. 42 people were released from isolation on Sunday meaning that they have been symptom-free for 10 days including three days without a fever. A total of 716 people have been released from isolation as of Sunday.
On Saturday evening, Starr County officials reported 106 new cases, their biggest single day increase of cases. The total amount of known cases in Satt County now stands at 373 with 53 of those cases recovered and 319 people recovering under medical care.
