The total number of known positive COVID-19 cases in Hidalgo County increased to 18,249 Tuesday, the same day 45 more residents died from COVID-19 complications.
498 tested positive for the virus, the county reported in a Tuesday news release. The county COVID-19 death total now stands at 727.
Forty-four of the positive cases are listed as “undisclosed” meaning the residents are from one of the smaller cities within Hidalgo County where federal privacy laws prevent the county from publicly disclosing which small city the new case is from.
“I am truly saddened by the passing of our 45 Hidalgo County residents. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the friends and families who lost their loved ones,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a statement. “Continue to be alert for symptoms. Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19. Especially important if you are running essential errands, going into the office or workplace, and in settings where it may be difficult to keep a physical distance of 6 feet.”
There are now 5,858 net active cases after 263 people were released from isolation on Tuesday for being symptom-free for 10 days, including three days without a fever.
There are 757 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 related complications with 247 of those being treated in intensive care units.
