Hidalgo County health officials reported 20 people have died today due to complications related to COVID-19 and 283 others tested positive for the virus Tuesday.
The total number of known positive cases is 20,431 with 4,484 of those marked as active. The county COVID-19 death count now stands at 849.
“Even one death from COVID-19 is one too many. I express my deepest condolences to the 20 families for the loss of their loved one. Know that our hearts and thoughts are with you,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a Tuesday news release where he urged residents to continue practicing recommended guidelines such as wearing a mask, avoiding large gatherings, washing hands and practicing social distancing.
“We can only beat COVID-19 by working together,” Cortez said.
273 people were released from isolation on Tuesday after showing no symptoms for 10 days, including three days without a fever. There are currently 605 people hospitalized with complications from the virus, 226 of those who are being treated in intensive care units.
