30 Hidalgo County residents died Thursday following COVID-19 related complications on the same day the county reported 508 people tested positive for the virus.
According to the county, the new cases bring the total number of positive cases to 21,275 with 911 deaths.
“With a heavy heart I send my deepest condolences to the families of the 30 Hidalgo County neighbors we have lost to this disease,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a news release. “Practice everyday preventive actions to help reduce your risk of getting sick and remind everyone in your home to do the same. These actions are especially important for older adults and people who have severe chronic medical conditions.”
Hidalgo County’s Health and Human Services Department noted that Wednesday’s daily report of new cases included an inaccurate figure for the total number of people who were tested. That number – 119,991 – has been updated.
There are currently 566 people hospitalized with complications from the virus with 227 of those cases treated in intensive care units.
228 people were released from isolation There are currently 4,805 net active cases and 228 people were released from isolation on Thursday after being symptom-free for 10 days, including three days without a fever.
A total of 15,559 of the COVID-19 positive cases have been cleared for isolation leaving 4,805 active COVID-19 cases.
