14 people died Tuesday from complications related to COVID-19 on the same day 131 people tested positive for the virus, Hidalgo County announced in a news release.
The total number of known positive cases is now 27,669 with the COVID-19 death count stands at 1,185.
“My deepest sympathies to the friends and family of the 14 additional Hidalgo County residents who have passed away from COVID-19,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez stated in the news release. “Everyone plays a role in keeping each other safe from this virus. This becomes especially important as we look towards Labor Day weekend, a holiday that is traditionally celebrated with family in the valley. We all need to do our part to help slow or reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
There are currently 2,520 net active cases of the disease in the county and 248 people were released from isolation on Tuesday, meaning a total of 23,964 COVID-19 patients have been symptom-free for 10 days, including three days without a fever.
There are currently 316 people hospitalized with complications from the virus with 121 of those cases are being treated in intensive care units.
