Hidalgo County saw 17 more deaths related to COVID-19 and 191 more positive cases Friday.
According to a news release, Friday’s new cases bring the total amount of known positive cases to 28,369 with
2,908 of those cases marked as active. The COVID-related death rate in Hidalgo County now stands at 1,250 people.
“With Labor Day weekend here, I urge you to follow public health guidelines during any festivities. Let’s prevent coronavirus outbreaks in the coming weeks resulting from gatherings for the holiday,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said. “Please take precautions; this virus is real. Please do your part in wearing a mask, washing your hands or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to avoid infecting others.”
There are now 264 people being treated for the virus in area hospitals with 104 of them in intensive care units.
