Friday saw a total of 26 more Hidalgo County residents die from complications of COVID-19 with an additional 126 others testing positive, bringing the total count of people in the county who have died from the disease to 1,381 while the county now has a total of 29,335 COVID-19 cases.
2,071 of those cases remain active, according to a news release from the county.
“I’m generally encouraged by the trend reflected in these numbers, but I’m equally mindful that this virus is still out there and still very dangerous,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez stated in the release. “I send my condolences to the friends and family of the 26 who died and my prayers for those fighting this dreadful disease.”
252 people remain in area hospitals with 90 of those being treated in intensive care units.
