23 Hidalgo County residents die from COVID-19 complications
On the same day that COVID-19 death count for the entire country surpassed 200,000 people, 23 people in Hidalgo County perished from complications of the COVID-19 virus.
An additional 255 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to a Tuesday news release from, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez.
Tuesday’s new numbers bring the total number of COVID-19 cases in Hidalgo County to 30,998 with 2,201 of those cases marked as active. The additional deaths bring the total number of COVID-related deaths locally to 1,563.
“There has been suffering at both the national and local level from this terrible disease,” Judge Cortez said. “We must fight back by being smart and doing what we know works, especially avoiding crowds and staying home when possible.”
Of those cases, 181 COVID-19 patients are being treated in local hospitals with 65 of those patients in intensive care units.
