Hidalgo County reports 19 more COVID-19 deaths

Hidalgo County saw 19 additional deaths from COVID-19 related complications Friday while 191 new positive cases were reported.

The 19 new deaths bring the total COVID-19 death count in the county to 1,630 people while the total number of known positive cases stands at 31,562. 2,173 of those cases are marked as active.

“The numbers continue to go in the right direction, but I will not be happy until the fatality rate from this terrible disease drops to zero,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a news release. “I send my condolences to the family, friends and neighbors of those who died.”

The number of people hospitalized from the disease now stands at 180.  77 of those patients are being treated in intensive care units.

As the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department moved to a five-day work week last week, the next COVID-19 updates won’t be reported until Monday.
