Thirty-one more people in Hidalgo County died from COVID-19 related complications over the last three days, a period that saw 115 other people test positive for the virus.
The news comes in a Monday news release from Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez who said the county COVID-19 death toll now stands at 1,661 people while the total number of known positive cases stands at 31,677. 2,139 of those cases are marked as active.
“I remain encouraged that the numbers of people being affected by this virus continue to drop,” Judge Cortez said in a statement. “But we cannot declare this over. We must remain vigilant about protecting ourselves.”
The number of people hospitalized from the disease now stands at 167 with 75 of those patients being treated in intensive care units.
