Another 17 souls were lost to COVID-19 related complications Wednesday, bringing the total death count from the virus 1,698.
The new numbers were reported by the county in a news release that reported 149 new positive cases, bringing the total number of those testing positive 31,984. 2,131 of those cases remain active as 28,155 COVID-19 patients have not shown symptoms for ten days or haven’t had a fever for the last three of those days.
“People continue to die from this disease and that continues to be a tragedy,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a statement. “I extend my condolences to the friends and family of these victims.”
A total of 164 people are now in area hospitals being treated for COVID-19 related complications. 62 of those patients are being treated in intensive care units.
