Officials with the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department reported 15 more COVID-19 related deaths Tuesday and 119 new known positive cases.
This brings the total amount of COVID-19 related deaths to 1,868 and the amount of known cases to 33,614. 2,297 of those cases are active, the county said in a news release.
“We continue to see double digit increases in deaths and triple digit increases in new positive cases,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a statement. “We must bring these numbers down by employing safety measures like facial coverings and avoiding crowds. I send my deepest condolences to the family, friends and neighbors of those who died.”
159 people remain in area hospitals with COVID-19 related complications. Of those cases, 61 of them are in intensive care units.
