Officials with the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department reported 16 more deaths related to COVID-19 and 174 new known positive cases of the virus, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a Wednesday news release.
This brings the total amount of COVID-19 related deaths to 1,884 with 33,788 known cases of the disease. 2,374 of those cases are active, the release stated.
“The deaths and those contracting this disease continue to add up,” Judge Cortez said. “I send my sincere condolences to the family and friends of those who died and I pray for a quick recovery for those who are sick.”
168 people are in area hospitals with COVID-19 related complications and 68 of them are being treated in intensive care units.
