The amount of deaths attributed to COVID-19 related complications was in the single digits Thursday as Hidalgo County announced eight more deaths.
The county also reported 246 new known cases of the COVID-19 virus, bringing the total amount of COVID-19 fatalities to 1,892 and the total amount of new cases to 34,034.
The amount of active COVID-19 cases now stands at 2,423, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said a news release.
“We are encouraged that the number of deaths continue to drop, but I will not be happy until this number is zero,” Judge Cortez said in a statement. “I send my condolences to the family and friends of those who have died.”
151 people remain in area hospitals with COVID-19 related complications with 64 of them being treated in intensive care units.
