Hidalgo County COVID-19 death toll news 1,900; 145 new cases reporter

Officials with the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department reported 3 more deaths related to COVID-19.

The three new victims who succumbed to complications from the disease include two males, one from Alton and another from Mercedes whose ages are over 70 in their 50s, respectively, and a Mission female over 70, a Friday news release from the county said.

“I extend my condolences to the family and friends of those who have died,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a statement.

The new deaths make it a total of 1,895 recorded deaths related to the outbreak of this disease in the county and 34,179 known total positive cases of COVID-19. 2,417 of those cases remain active.

151 people remain in area hospitals to be treated for complications related to the disease with 64 of those people placed in intensive care units.

Due to a change in the way the county makes their daily COVID-19 reports, the next update won’t be released until Tuesday, officials said.
