Rangers with the Texas Department of Public Safety Texas are leading an investigation at the Starr County Detention Center after a Roma man was found dead in a holding cell restroom stall.
Edgar Garza, 32, was declared dead by Justice of the Peace Luis Garcia at round 1:35 a.m. Monday after Starr County Deputies found him unresponsive in a holding cell restroom stall, the sheriff’s office said in a social media post released Monday afternoon.
Garza had been arrested the previous day by Starr County Deputies and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. An autopsy was ordered for him according to the release, which did not provide a cause of death for Garza.
Texas Rangers were contacted by the sheriff’s office and will lead the investigation as the Starr County Sheriff’s Office cooperates with them.
