Hidalgo County reports 6 more COVID-19 deaths, 202 new cases

Officials with the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department reported six more deaths related to COVID-19 on Monday and 202 new known positive cases, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Tuesday.

This brings the total amount of COVID-19 related deaths to 1,961 and the total amount of known positive cases of the disease to 36,147. Of those cases, 2,575 remain active.

In a statement, county Judge Cortez expressed condolences to families of those who lost loved ones to the disease.

“We are in the final two months of a very bad year,” Judge Cortez said. “We have lost more than 1,900 of our family members, friends and neighbors to this terrible disease. I offer condolences to those affected by death and I offer prayers to the community.”

156 people remain in area hospitals to be treated for COVID-19 related complications with 63 of them placed in intensive care units.
