Nine more Hidalgo County residents died from COVID-19 related causes as 193 more people tested positive, officials with the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department reported Thursday.
With the new cases, a total of 1,978 county residents have died from complications related to the disease as 36,686 positive cases have been found, the county said in a Friday news release.
“Every day, more are getting sick and more are dying,” Hidalgo County Richard F. Cortez said in a statement Friday. “We must stop this as a community by observing safety measures such as staying home and avoiding crowds. My condolences go out to the family and friends of those who have died.”
159 residents remain in county hospitals to be treated with complications related to the disease with 59 of them being treated in intensive care units.
