Five more Hidalgo County residents died from COVID-19 related causes and 183 more people tested positive, officials with the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department reported Tuesday.
The numbers were announced in a Thursday news release as numbers were not compiled for Wednesday, which was Veterans Day.
With the new numbers, the total number of COVID-19 related fatalities now stands at 1,994 and the total amount of known positive cases is now 37,214. 2,461 of those cases remain active according to the release.
“Five new deaths from this disease may seem small relative to the death toll from recent days, but they represent much more to the family and friends of those who perished,” Hidalgo County Richard F. Cortez said in a statement. “I offer my condolences to those families affected by these deaths and my sincere prayers that the death toll from this virus eventually ends.”
159 people remain in area hospitals with 64 of them being treated in intensive care units with COVID-19 related complications.
