Hidalgo County reached a grim milestone over the weekend as the county reported on Monday six more COVID-19 related deaths.
With the increase, a total of 2,004 people have died as a result of the disease since it first appeared in the Valley last March.
Monday’s news release announcing the cases, which usually reports the cases from Friday, also reported 167 new cases, meaning a total of 37,580 people have tested positive for the virus. 2,273 of those cases remain active, according to the release.
166 people remain in area hospitals with 66 of them being treated in intensive care units for COVID-19 related complications.
