November 20-23 – Baptist Temple, 2001 Trenton Rd. in McAllen, will continue to accept donations for the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child to collect shoebox gifts. The shoebox gifts are filled with school supplies, hygiene items and toys. Go to samaritanpurse.org to find general instructions and videos on how to prepare a shoebox Christmas package and to see a list of hours Baptist Temple will be open to accept the donations.

November 21 – Join Hanna, the Edinburg World Birding Center resident Yogi, at 9 a.m. as she leads children and families through an easy Family Yoga session on at 9 a.m. live on the EWBC Facebook page. November 21 – Join the Edinburg World Birding Center interpretive naturalist team at 4 p.m. to discover a few of the common edible wild plants in the Rio Grande Valley. Learn how to identify the plants in the 30-minute course for anyone interested in learning about native plants in the Rio Grande Valley. The program will be delivered via Zoom. November 24 – The Edinburg World Birding Center will host an in-person Adaptation Artistry program at 2 p.m. Why do some birds have long legs, curved beaks, or backward facing toes? Learn why birds look the way they do and then create an imaginary bird with creative adaptations. Included in regular admission, the cost is $6, plus tax, for each material kit. A family can share a kit, or a kit can be purchased for each participant. The program is recommended for children ages 7 and up, although younger children can participate with an adult’s help. November 24 – The Edinburg World Birding Center will host guided bird walks every Tuesday through Dec. 29 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The walks are included with regular paid admission. The program is for birders of all levels, but for adults only.  Register a day prior to the tour date at EdinburgWBC.org or call to register at 956-381-9922. The EWBC is located at 714 S. November 28 – Spend some time in nature this Thanksgiving weekend from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Edinburg World Birding Center to learn about butterfly baiting, an entertaining and simple activity to see butterflies up close. Learn the technique with a EWBC naturalist and then go on a walk around the grounds to practice the methods of butterfly baiting. The program is included with regular admission. The EWBC is located at 714 S. Raul Longoria in Edinburg.

December 18 – This is the deadline date to sign up for the upcoming Texas Master Naturalist class held on Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. and running Jan. 7 to March 25, 2021. Residents over the age of 18 and Winter Texans are invited to join. The cost is $150 and includes textbook, fees, T-shirt and one-year membership. Full scholarships are available and due by Dec. 18.
