763 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hidalgo County

Hidalgo County continues to see a rapid increase in the amount of new reported COVID-19 cases after the county reported 763 new cases Wednesday and four new deaths.

The deaths were all males from Edinburg, Mercedes, McAllen and Weslaco. The Edinburg man was in his 40s while the other three victims were over the age of 70, according to a news report.

A total of 2,048 people have died from COVID-19 complications as of Wednesday, the county said in a news release. With the 763 new cases, a total of 42,232 positive COVID-19 cases have been reported by county health officials with 2,147 of those cases remaining active.

COVID-19 hospitalizations also saw an increase Wednesday as the county reported 191 residents being treated in area hospitals for COVID-19 related complications. The number of reported COVID hospitalizations on Tuesday was 180. 76 of the 191 people are being treated in intensive care units.
