The Hidalgo County COVID-19 death toll grew by eight as the county reported 508 new positive cases of the disease in a Friday news release.
A total of 2,090 people have succumbed to COVID-19 complications as of Friday as the county reports 45,387 total cases of the disease. 2,384 of those cases remain active, the county said.
The deaths include two males and six women from the cities of Donna, Edinburg, McAllen, Mission and Pharr and one from an undisclosed location. Their ages ranged from 30s to over the age of 70.
235 people are in area hospitals to be treated with COVID-19 complications with 84 of them placed in intensive care units.
