Five more Hidalgo County residents died from COVID-19 related complications and 505 others tested positive for the disease, the county reported Friday.
The five individuals included an Edinburg man in his 50s, a Donna man in his 60s, an Alamo man over 70, a Pharr man in his 60s and a Pharr woman over 70, according to a Friday news release issued by the county.
Of the new cases, 166 are confirmed, 320 are probable, and 19 are suspected cases.
The new numbers bring the total amount of reported COVID-19 cases to 48,304 with 2,721 of those cases remaining active. The new deaths make it 2,154 people who have succumbed to the disease
238 COVID-19 positive patients remain in area hospitals with 84 of those individuals being treated in intensive care units.
