COVID-19 cases climb past 49K mark in Hidalgo County

Four more people have died from complications related to COVID-19 as hospitalizations and the amount of new cases continue to increase.

The county reported 293 new cases of the disease on Tuesday, bringing the total amount of known positive cases of the disease to 49,009. Of those cases, 2,540 are active.

The deaths include two men and two women from Alamo, Donna, Pharr and San Juan whose ages range from their 60s to over the age of 70. With the new numbers, the total amount of COVID-19 fatalities now stands at

The county also reported a large increase in the amount of people being treated in area hospitals with COVID-19 related complications. 277 people are hospitalized with 102 of them being treated in intensive care units.

On Monday, the amount of hospitalized and ICU patients stood at 240 and 81, respectively.
