COVID-19 cases continues to climb on Christmas Eve as Hidalgo County reported 380 new positive cases of the contagious disease as well as eight deaths.
The new cases, 159 of which are confirmed to be COVID-19, 219 of which are suspected to COVID-19, bring the total amount of known positive cases of the disease to 49,728. Of those cases, 2,594 remain active, the county said in a Thursday news release.
The eight new deaths-six men and two women from the cities of Alamo, McAllen, Mission, Pharr, Weslaco and an undisclosed location, brings the county death toll to 2,176. Their ages ranged from their 40s to over the age of 70.
280 people remain in area hospitals to be treated with COVID-19 complications and 110 of them are currently placed in intensive care units, according to the release.
